Good morning, Erik. I haven't heard anyone call them the puddingstone
outcrops, but that image is so descriptive that I'm SURE you must be talking
about those 12 foot tall oozes of conglomerate down on First Beach in
Newport. Great that you mention them as a letterbox site because I run there
2 or 3 times a week and have been subconciously mapping out a 3 or 4 stamp
series for that area. There's the beach, now famous as the only stranding
site for a Blue Whale in generations, the Norman Bird Sanctuary, and
Sachuest Point NWR all within rambling distance of one
another........possibilities!

Yup, thats the rock!
Haven't been to Newport since college days (RISD 1971 - ugh!), but the
area (and all of R.I.) is steeped with memories!

Now, isn't there a "gatehouse" historic building that the road drives
thru, perhaps to the south from downtown?

Hey, thanks for the incentive for a trip south.
